As of today GeoCities has been closed.It was once a very popular web hosting service founded in 1994 and purchased by Yahoo in 1999. Because of it’s whopping 15 megabytes webspace and the free, although with advertisements, price it became a very popular site in the early nineties.
Their main focus was primarily aimed at first-time or new internet users. The most notable about webpages on GeoCities was an amateurish layout, lots of animated gifs and sometimes embedded midi-sounds.
